Baseball Cupcakes
Hey, baseball mamas! If you’re fully immersed in this sport as much as I am with my two boys, this post is a keeper. I’ve made several different versions of baseball themed cupcakes and each time were a crowd fave.
I’ve collected them all for you here so they’re easily accessible and you can choose which you’d like to make! First things, first…SUPPLIES!

You can find everything you need for each version right on my Amazon storefront. If you’re looking for something specific, let me know and I can help you source it.

Preferred Frosting: American Buttercream
I highly recommend making American Buttercream for these. It’s a stable frosting which makes it easier to create the grass effect. It also is a crusting buttercream which means it hardens when chilled. This is very important so the grass stays in place and for creating Style 1 (shown below) which requires freezing the cupcakes flat.
If you’d like to make your own American Buttercream, you can use my recipe and tips to help you.
HOW TO MAKE AMERICAN BUTTERCREAM
Style 1: Full Baseball
Key Tips to Make:
Add a dollop of buttercream to each cupcake, them press upside down on parchment paper (that’s on a cookie sheet)
Freeze for 20-30 minutes to harden
Carefully peel the cupcakes away from the parchment paper
Color 1 cup of buttercream red for the laces. Do this about an hour or 2 in advance. The longer the colored frosting sits, the more the color will deepen
Style 2: Grass with Chocolate Baseballs
Key Tips to Make:
When piping with the grass tip, practice first so you can get the hang of it. The key is to apply pressure as you pull up, then lift.
Chill in the freezer for 20 minutes to set the grass design.
Use the cake pop mold, to create the chocolate baseballs. Fill cavities with melted white candy melts.
Freeze for 30 minutes to harden
Add to the tops of each cupcake
Using red icing gel (or red buttercream), carefully create the laces on the chocolate baseballs. You can even use store-bought red frosting for this part if you’d like.
This can be tedious so take your time.
Style 3: Grass with Plastic Sports Toppers
These can be made using the same steps as outlined in Style 2, however, they’re topped with plastic sports ring toppers.
These are a great option if you’re limited on time or if you simply want to make the whole process easier than making chocolate baseballs.
I like the plastic option because these can be washed prior to adding to the cupcake. I’ve seen foam versions of these toppers, but those won’t clean as easy
Style 4: Grass and Full Baseball Combo
This is a great option for a more stylish take. Creating a “set” with the combo of Styles 1 and 2, you’ll have a very aesthetically pleasing cupcake presentation!
I topped the grass in this set with an edible icing baseball. I’m sure you can find these in many places, but these particular ones I found from Sweets & Treats Boutique. This supply shop also offers my absolute favorite cupcake liners! They’re very durable, and keep the color after baking.
